“Sons of Anarchy” has set record audience with its fourth season opener. The 90-minute premiere episode that aired on Tuesday night, September 6 attracted 4.94 million total viewers, giving the show its highest ratings ever.
The number was up about 19 percent from the third season debut (4.13 million) last year. It also posted a 17 percent gain in adults 18-49 (3.22 million) compared to the first episode of season 3. Together with its two encore runs last night, the episode pulled 7.25 million total viewers.
“SOA” creator Kurt Sutter previously launched a personal challenge which offers one of his Twitter followers and one reader of his blog a chance to watch episode 10 of season 4 with him in his house in Thanksgiving week if the fourth season premiere sees at least 10 percent bump. Soon after the rating number was released, Sutter wrote on his Twitter, “yes, trip and swag will be gifted. i’ll choose this weekend. post it on my blog on Monday.”
A new episode titled “Booster” will air next week (Tuesday, September 13) at 10 P.M. on FX. A newly-released preview sees Jax landing in trouble as he is held hostage with a gun pointed on his neck, while new sheriff Eli Roosevelt makes his presence felt at SAMCRO’s clubhouse.
Showtime has made sure that Cathy Jamison will stay alive at least for another season by ordering the third season of “The Big C“. The drama comedy series revolving around Laura Linney’s cancer-striken character has received ten episode order for the next chapter.
“We love working together and we’re excited to keep exploring where Cathy’s going,” showrunner Jenny Bicks said of the renewal. “We’ve all become, as many shows do, we’ve all become a family, and it’s a terrific place to be so we’re excited to keep going for as long as Cathy can keep going.”
The production for the third season is expected to kick off in early next year for a premiere in the second quarter of 2012. The show, which helped lead actress Linney land a Golden Globe Award, will wrap up its second season on September 26.
