Lost TV Show
July 31, 2008
The weekly, hour-long drama Lost TV Show began at a point that in any other case may have been an ending: a passenger jet, crashing on an uncharted Pacific Ocean.

At that stage, each survivor was given a choice to live together or die alone Among the survivors were, Dr. Jack Shephard, fugitive Kate Ryan, rock star Charlie Pace, the reclusive and mysterious John Locke, hot-tempered and self-serving James “Sawyer”, chauvinistic Korean husband Jin Kwon, his much-put-upon wife, resourceful former Iraqi Republican Guard Sayid, estranged siblings Shannon Rutherford and Boone Carlisle, dad Michael Dawson, and very pregnant Aussie Claire Littleton. The island is treacherous and it holds many secrets and the survivors quickly learn they must band together in order to have any hope of rescue. Jack, Kate, and Sawyer have been captured by the mysterious. Others forced to live in their campsite, they learn more of the island’s secrets and realize their enemies have an agenda all of their own. Meanwhile, Locke is brought back into communion with the island as it wraps him closer into its own insidious plot. Adding to the suspense, was the apparent presence of a person not on the passenger list, who seemed determined to bump off the hapless castaways one by one, and a mysterious, terrifying yet unseen monster-like creature. The show has announced it will run for three more seasons of 16 episodes and end in 2010. The show has become an international success and the fact that the viewer has no clue as to what is going on seems to have become its biggest appeal.

ER TV Show
July 31, 2008
ER TV Show Created by novelist Michael Crichton and reportedly based on his own experiences as a medical student, the NBC hospital drama ER debuted September 19, 1994, directly opposite the similar CBS endeavor Chicago Hope. Though many critics thought that Chicago Hope had a better chance for survival than ER, the NBC series scored a surprise hit — and over a decade later it was still firmly imbedded in the network’s Thursday-night schedule, while Chicago Hope had long since vanished. Set largely in the emergency room of Chicago’s fictional County General Hospital, ER focused on the professional and personal trials and tribulations of the unit’s staff, with several subplots and story arcs weaving in and out of each hour-long episode. The regular cast for the first season consisted of Anthony Edwards as Dr. Mark Greene, George Clooney as Dr. Doug Ross, Sherry Stringfield as Dr. Susan Lewis, Eriq La Salle as Dr. Peter Benton, Julianna Margulies as Head Nurse Carol Hathaway, and Noah Wyle as med student (and later doctor) John Carter.

Later principals, in order of their appearance, included Laura Innes as Dr. Kerry Weaver, Alex Kingston as Dr. Elizabeth Corday, Paul McCrane as Dr. Robert Romano, Kellie Martin as med student Lucy Knight, Erik Palladino as Dr. Dave Malucci, Goran Visnjic as Dr. Luka Kovac, Ming-Na as Dr. Jing-Mei “Deb” Chen (a recurring character in season one who returned as a regular in season six), Maura Tierney as Nurse (and later Dr.) Abby Lockhart, Michael Michele as Dr. Cleo Finch, Sharif Atkins as Dr. Michael Gallant, Mekhi Phifer as Dr. Gregory Pratt, and Parminder Nagra as med student (and later doctor) Neela Rasgotra. Many of these characters’ lives were intertwined romantically, while some of the characters were bitter enemies; all were uniformly fascinating. And just as in “real life,” there was nothing predictable about the exits of certain characters: some departed with tragic abruptness (Lucy Knight, Robert Romano), others simply bade farewell and moved on with their lives (Doug Ross, Carol Hathaway, Peter Benton); but no “goodbye” was as poignant and moving as the lingering illness and death of Mark Greene throughout the length and breadth of season eight. Though the plot emphasis was on the continuing characters, a number of prominent guest stars made memorable appearances during the series’ decade-plus run. Alan Alda, Sally Field, and Bob Newhart were but three of the A-list entertainers who passed in and out of the doors of Chicago County. The winner of innumerable industry awards, ER has also earned a niche in media history as the most expensive dramatic series in TV history, reaching this particular plateau with its 13-million-dollar-per-episode average budget during the 1998-1999 season.

CSI TV Show (Crime Scene Investigation) is an innovative, fast-paced drama that follows a crew of forensic investigators as they solve crimes by analyzing evidence with advanced forensic tools. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, which first aired on October 6, 2000, could be described as “Quincy for the 21st century.” Set in Las Vegas, the weekly, 60-minute series focused on the activities of that city’s Crime Scene Investigations Bureau. Working the overnight shift, the principal characters deployed state-of-the-art forensic technology to solve unsolvable crimes. Whenever scientific analysis failed, however, the lab’s “criminalists” relied upon good, old-fashioned logic — logical to them, if not to their superiors. So efficient was the CSI team that it was rated the number two such crime lab in America. The series’ main protagonist was Gil Grissom (William L. Petersen), once the youngest coroner in the history of the L.A. police department, who after 15 years with the Vegas PD, was put in charge of the crime lab when its former skipper, the mercurial Captain Jim Brass (Paul Guilfoyle), was transferred back to the homicide division.

The crew is headed by Gil Grissom (William Petersen), the senior investigator devoted to find the truth through the latest forensic methods combined with old-fashioned research and intuition. Alongside Gil is Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger), a single mother struggling to balance her home life with the rigors of her demanding job; Warrick Brown (Gary Dourdan), whose knowledge of the gambling world helps the Las Vegas based crew; Nick Stokes (George Eads), a self-proclaimed ladies man with an objective to find the wrong-doers; and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox), the newest, outspoken member who often lets her troubled past get in the way of her job. The crew works along side Captain Jim Brass (Paul Guilfoyle), the former head of the graveyard shift turned captain; Greg Sanders (Eric Szmanda), a quirky lab tech working to be part of the CSI crew; and medical examiner Dr. Robbins (Robert David Hall).
